At our headquarters in Thalwil, we run our own Quality Laboratory, where we perform environmental stress tests and electrical verification for product qualifications as well as physical analyses of field returns, qualification failures and prototype devices. For our lab team we are looking for a motivated failure analysis engineer who would like to develop in microelectronics failure analysis or ideally already has experience in this field. He/she should be accustomed to handle complex instrumentation with a high degree of thoroughness whilst being used to solve unusual problems and apply combinatorial thinking on a daily basis. The successful candidate works in close collaboration with the quality engineers on the determination of the root cause of failure by combining facts from the lab, field and production. In this way, he/she plays an essential role in the improvement of quality and reliability of u-blox’s, as well as our customers’ products and production processes.

  • Perform physical failure analyses using various non-destructive and destructive methods (x-ray; acoustic microscopy; optical microscopy; IR thermography; electron microscopy; mechanical- and chemical preparations e.g. cross-sectioning and etching)
  • Compile comprehensive reports and communicating these to requesters within the company
  • Support colleagues in choosing the most efficient analysis flow for their request
  • Arranging maintenances for instrumentation and infrastructure
  • Support evaluation of new analysis equipment for the lab
  • Develop analytical techniques and procedures and write documentation for those
  • Bachelor or master degree in electrical engineering, physics, material science or similar discipline
  • Hands-on laboratory experience
  • Good knowledge of material-science laboratory methods including preparation of cross sectional samples, micro-probing, optical and electron microscopy, elemental analysis techniques
  • Basic understanding of electric circuits and their elemental devices (transistors, diodes, resistors, capacitors)
  • Ideally experience in the semiconductor industry, getting in touch with topics like IC design, packaging and ESD preventing measures
  • Ability of working independently on complex tasks in a timely way
  • Very good English skills, both spoken and written, German skills are a plus
  • Swiss or EU/EFTA citizen or resident with valid work permit for Switzerland
